Bike Workshop is situated in All Saints Road W11.  It is a small shop that specializes in repairs and servicing but does sell a couple of brands, namely the Brompton (my bike of choice) and Pashley's.  It is my shop of choice for my servicing and parts (some of us live in small flats with no garage!) and it is a place I know and trust.  Nina, the proprieter has run the business for 25 years, it started on Portobello Green and moved round the corner to All Saints Road where it currently is.  She has just informed me that it will finish in a couple of years when the lease is up on the current location due to business rates.  I and many others in the community will be at a loss for the service it offers.  They repair and service most types of bikes, whether it be a road, racing, offroad, commuter, shopping, child's etc, and offer a lot of parts you won't find anywhere else.  It's part of the community and it will be a wrench when it goes..........

The shop front with a line of cycles awaiting repair......

Notting Hill is changing a pace and it's going more and more upmarket as the Chelsea crowd are forced to expand into more working class areas.  It is a sad fact of life.  I just hope the area with Portobello Market as it's heartbeat, continues the same mix of working class and rich and famous alike.  The thing with Bike Workshop is that it has grown and is used by all sorts of people whether they be local, politicians, celebraties or tourists.  They are passionate about what they do and are a credit to the community.

It's a mucky job but someone has to do it !!!

Nina has been doing this for quarter of a century, there is not a lot she doesn't know about bikes.  People come to her for advice, even how to start up and run their own bike shops.  That sort of knowledge is hard to find and is irreplaceable.  I and many others will suffer when the shop goes.....

    Mike servicing a rear wheel.....

The shop itself is small, a throwback to the good old days when you know the people that run it and can trust them, not some faceless organization with a dimwit saying 'Hi, I'm Stephen, your friendly customer service guy....'  Yeah well those types of places lack the expertise to do good work in my opinion.  Bike Workshop may be small, but it's the quality of the work they do that matters and they are a credit to the community.

    The tools of the trade........

Mike and Freddy servicing bikes in the shop........

The shop may not be big, but it's the heart that matters.  People passionate about what they do and caring about you and your safety on the road, and doing quality work.  That is priceless and hard to find today in this corporate world we live in.........

I would like to see common sense prevail, and a reputable local business allowed to continue and flourish and be as strong in the community as it already is.  Nina and her staff, Mike and Freddy and previous incumbents, have done a sterling job.  I suppose the shop will become another up-market restaurant or the like in the future, but it will not serve the community like this shop does.........

If you are visiting Portobello Market, take a walk up to All Saints Road and visit the shop - http://www.bicycleworkshop.co.uk/ A fab world of all things bicycle.......!!!!!
